The El Dorado High School Band has been nominated by Congressman Bruce Westerman to perform in the Memorial Day Parade, in honor of the 75th WWII anniversary on May 25, 2020, in Washington D.C.

Band members are preparing for the trip.

Isabella Licciardi, a trombone player, said, “ I’m kinda scared and nervous, and excited for the band,”

Another band member, Victor Buenrostro said, “I feel excited going to [Washington] D.C.”

Both students said they plan to practice their marching.

When asked how he thinks the band will do, EHS Band Director Robert Kloap said, “I feel we are going to do well.”

Kloap said “I don’t know what music we will perform yet, because the music is determined by the parade committee.” Kloap also said that the band would continue practicing for the event by doing music approved by the committee and marching.

In order for the students to make the trip, Kloap said the band will have to raise $120,000. The Band Parent Association is helping to raise the money with a fundraiser. Kloap said, “On Oct. 19, the Band Parents Association is holding a mattress fundraiser where people in El Dorado can buy a mattress where prices are 30 to 50 percent less anywhere else.”

The fundraiser is open to everyone. All funds will go directly to the band.
