As of early October 2023, war broke out between Israel and Palestine as the Hamas terrorist organization launched an attack on Israel killing hundreds of people.
The recent uproar of the chain of events that caused warfare to break out early October 2023 between Israel and Palestine is due to the constant tension of affairs regarding Israel’s ongoing discrimination and brutal attacks towards Palestinians, which has been progressing for decades.
As it has been most commonly referred to as a Palestine-Israel war, it would be more accurate to describe this as an Israel conflict as this issue pertains to the Israeli colonization of Palestine. The Islamist militant group Hamas launched an attack on Israel firing rockets leading to the kidnapping and death of Israeli civilians and soldiers. Hamas’s recent strike towards Israel is linked to their cause for decolonization due to decades of having Palestinians under an authoritative discriminatory system centered around the interest of Israeli Jewish settlers by Israeli Occupation Forces.
However, this is not to suggest that the Hamas’ actions are righteous in any way as they have a corrupt sense of law and authority over the civilians of Gaza.
In response to this strike, Israel has now declared war towards Hamas and are determined to subjugate Palestinians in Gaza to a state of suffering, denying them basic living essentials such as food, water, shelter, medical needs, etc. as well as enforcing Israeli military blockade. This phenomenon that Israel is imposing upon the people of Gaza is collective punishment and further proof on how the Israeli occupiers actual agenda is to ethnically cleanse Palestinians.
This agenda dates back to when the British mandate paved the way for Zionists to migrate to the Native country of Palestine in order for Jewish settlers to eventually dominate and overrun the Arabi population, which had begun to establish their settler colonies, since the 1920s-1930s. From 1939, the Jewish population had begun to rise and by 1967 the settler colony of Israel had seized control of the entirety of Native Palestine.
In later years, Israel has only given Palestine a portion of what had been taken from them, that being the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. Although Palestinians were given a fragment of their land back, they only had certain independence of self-ruling due to Israel’s authoritative power over occupied Palestinian territories.
Israel’s authoritative power over OPT has given them the opportunity to commit illicit crimes towards Palestinians such as injuring and killing Palestinians as well as restricting their land and freedom. This crime of apartheid continues to affect Palestinians to this day as the growing number of Palestinian men, women, and children, majority children, are being killed.
This is not to be considered a ‘declaration of war’ if one side is subjected to brutal force from the opposing colony in addition to restricting Palestinians any essential resources. This is an act against humanity and the crime of genocide towards Palestinian population.
Currently, the U.S. plays a role in the genocide of Palestinians as “President Joe Biden made a strong statement of support for Israel. On the same day that Israel declared war against the terrorist group, the United States announced that it would send renewed shipments of arms and move its Mediterranean sea warships closer to Israel.” Opposing the United States standing on the matter at hand, the head of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres announced, “It is important to also recognize the attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation.”
While Hamas’ actions toward the recent death of Israelis is inhumane, this is only a small percentage of what Palestinians have been suffering through for decades at the hands of Israeli authorities. Those in support of Palestinian protests and movements are now fighting for Palestinians right to reclaim their land as well as their basic human rights, which nobody should have taken away in the first place.
