El Dorado Wildcats won their first home game this season against the Sylvan Hills Bears on Homecoming night.
Senior Safety Caden Perry, scored his first touchdown of the season during a series where players from the special teams unit was given the greenlight to take over in the first quarter. Perry jokingly commented about this particular play stating, “When I caught the ball, I was thinking, ‘Run as fast as you can,’ because everybody thinks that I’m a little slow.”
Both Coach Christopher Hill and Coach Darryl Lewis were very surprised and proud of the pivotal moment Perry had given for the crowd to experience. Hill said, “It’s always exciting when you see a guy, who normally plays defense, play offense and make a play,”. That fact was proven true on Oct. 20 when the 12th Man and the alumni in the stands cheered for Perry’s score!
In the first quarter, the Wildcats were able to score on the first drive during kickoff. Hill said, “We threw for 275-yards and scored four touchdowns in the first half.” Sophomore Bretaveon Brown had scored two touchdowns, catching one and running the other in. “Cannon Jacobs had another touchdown catch,” Hill said. These star players of the night, including Junior J-Prince Roberson, who had three catches for 91-yards along with great blocking, and Sophomore Quarterback Mitchell Polk who threw all the passes, overall had a good game with the rest of the special teams Hill had put in. Hill said it felt good to spread the ball around and see the guys have fun.
During the game, the Sylvan Hills Bears really didn’t get much of a chance to score, but they initiated a trick play by making a double pass and the Wildcats “bit up” on it. Hill said the cornerback took it upon himself to make a play, leaving an opponent wide open.
Though Hill feels that offensively, the team has to be more physical up-front, he said, “The special teams played well. I think the guys did a good job executing the game plan.”
The Wildcats overall had a good home game, and a good Homecoming win for both the alumni and EHS community to experience. The final score was 42-13.
