El Dorado Wildcats won against Sheridan 32-29 after being down 7 points in the late fourth quarter.
Sophomore back-up Receiver Cannon Jacobs scored two touchdowns, one of them being the winning touchdown in the late fourth quarter after Sheridan owned the majority of the third and fourth quarter.
In the first quarter, Coach Christopher Hill said that there were some changes in the starting line, adding Seniors Carmilo Johnson, Ahmad Young and Junior Josiah Crosby to the offensive line because “defensive mentality is a lot different than offensive mentality” and felt that play would increase their intensity. Sophomore QB Mitchell Polk threw a 66-yard touchdown with Junior Wide-Receiver J-Prince Roberson on the catch. “They scored on their opening possession,” Coach Wesley Ables said. LeVictor Levingston said they had given up a touchdown on their opening drive but was able to come back and tie the score before the end of the First Quarter.
The coaches broke down on special teams right before halftime when Sheridan scored a touchdown. Mitchell Polk was able to step up big time and come down on a 39-yard run in the second quarter. Hill said “We gave up the touchdown, then we got the ball back and Mitchell had a long run for a touchdown with six seconds left.” With that play, they lead 23-14 at halftime.
Sheridan owned the majority of the third quarter’s second half. Ables said, “Late in the fourth quarter, we were down 29-26 and scored late.” Offense was able to put together a drive with Brayden Stanley performing a great first down, allowing Jacobs to execute and score the winning touchdown. Levingston says that the energy at pregame and in the student section played a really big factor in the win. Defensively, the coaches said Sophomore Jakori Lumsey had a total of 9 tackles and offensively, Polk, Jacobs, and Roberson overall had a good game.
Levingston said, “Last few weeks, we’ve been playing football that El Dorado’s not used to.” The team plans to get back to their roots to continue being a winning football team for the community here at EHS.
