Wildcatter

Lily Stratton, Hi-Gusher Staff

El Dorado Highschool is the home of the wildcats, but the true story behind that usually slips by most students of EHS. As people know, El Dorado is named after the City of Gold for its discovery of oil in 1921. El Dorado, Arkansas was built because of the Oil Boom. Thus said most things related to EHS are oil related. The term “Wildcatter” is defined by Dictionary as “a prospector who sinks exploratory oil wells.” This is where we got our mascot, Watson the Wildcat.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Watson the school mascot got his name in honor of Bob Watson. Bob Watson served 40 years in the district of El Dorado, and 29 years as superintendent at EHS. He retired on June 30th. The Hi-Gusher got its name due to the fact that oil gushing high in the air.
